Helping to combat climate change
Global warming is the single biggest environmental threat facing the planet, causing unpredictable and severe weather patterns with potentially catastrophic effects on agriculture, wildlife, human health and the economy.
The UK government has agreed a European Union target of 20% of the EU’s energy consumption from renewable sources by 2020, with a proposed UK contribution of 15% of all our energy from renewable sources by 2020.
This legally binding obligation means the race is on to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels via sustainable electricity generation if we want to meet our growing energy needs. Wind farms help to combat climate change by producing electricity that would otherwise have been generated by the burning of fossil fuels, helping the UK meet these ambitious targets.
